STEINWACHE
Concept
A competition hosted in Dortmund, Germany. The competition was to propose an entrance for a prison used as an internment camp during World War Two. The concept of this design is present and past. It focuses on keeping the old prison visible from a further distance and revealing the underground area of the prison. The new exhibit that functions as the main entrance is present and the past will be the sunken garden that reveals the hidden facade of the prison. The sequence starts from the prison and exits from the sunken garden. Users will experience the past (prison) first and to present (sunken garden). The sunken garden is the space for the users to experience the transition from past to present, directly leading to gallery space that memorializes the prison.
